The number of homes entering the foreclosure process this year has slowed according to new data. The number of homes placed on the road to foreclosure between January and October has dropped 8% from the same period last year, and the number of homes repossessed by banks declined nearly 19% according to foreclosure firm RealtyTrac Inc. The strengthening job market as well as efforts from lenders and lawmakers to modify loans or assist homeowners appears to have helped lower the number of people at least two months behind on their mortgage payments.
