Unemployment Filings Drop For Fourth Straight Week

The number of Americans filing for unemployment fell for the fourth straight week; the Labor Department reported that weekly applications fell 29,000 last week to 343,000. That is the lowest number in two months, and the second lowest total in 2012. The numbers spiked in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, but have now returned to pre-storm trends. Additionally, the Labor Department reported that employers posted the most open jobs in four months in October. This could indicate that hiring is picking up. The unemployment rate fell to 7.7%, down from 7.9% in October, which marks a four-year low. Visit USAToday for the full report.
