More than 20 locations and venues in and around Chapel Hill and Carrboro will light up on Friday evening as part of the first-ever Shimmer: The Art of Light Festival event. Talk about Friday night lights!
The unique festival will display light art installations designed by 23 artists from throughout the Triangle area, greater NC and bordering states. Artists’ installations will feature an array of sparkling colors and spontaneous features to demonstrate light as a “living medium.”
Chapel Hillian Nuno Gomes, a participating Shimmer artist interviewed by the News & Observer, said this of his art installation:
“What I always enjoy is the engagement with the piece more than looking at it from afar,” Gomes said. “That’s when I think there’s always a little bit more of an emotional response – when you walk into this thing, where something that you do changes what you’re seeing in front of you – there’s a ‘wow’ moment that changes the way you see the piece.”
Plan to attend this free event in your brightest, most illuminating attire for a chance to win the best-dressed competition. Light up duds not really your style? Don’t worry–the light sights that await are still sure to be spectacular in your comfy, unlit apparel.
