It’s a stampede! CowParade comes to the Triangle

It’s a stampede! Even if you missed last weekend’s Cow Parade Kickoff event at Golden Belt in Durham, there are still plenty of opportunities to see the Triangle’s “herd”. CowParade is one of the largest public art exhibits in the world, and CowParade NC features over 75 cows painted and costumed by Triangle-area artists. The event benefits the NC Children’s Hospital, which has a state-of-the-art facility at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill and more than 25 satellite facilities throughout the state. The expert physicians and pediatricians affiliated with NC Children’s hospital serve more the 70,000 ailing North Carolina children, many with complex medical conditions.

CowParade originated in Zürich, Switzerland, in 1998 and came to the US the next year. CowParade exhibits have been held in 75 cities, 30 countries, and six continents; they have raised over $30 million dollars for their non-profit beneficiaries and have produced over 5,000 cows!

The Triangle’s stable of bovine beauties features works from both amateur and professional artist including some commissioned by other local businesses and non-profits. The cows have now been distributed to some of the more heavily foot-trafficked areas throughout the Triangle, including North Hills in Raleigh, the home to Coldwell Banker Howard Perry and Walston’s Builder’s Services division. At the end of their 3-month stay, select cows will be auctioned off, with the proceeds benefiting the NC Children’s Hospital.
